As you may have noticed if you have been to the bowling center lately (sunset, midway, seaway or stanton) we have put in place a new menu with some changes. We have worked hard this summer to come up with a more complete menu, with food we feel you will enjoy more. Another Junior in Stanton Lanes Junior Program Bowls Her Way To College

Amy E. Chirico daughter of Thomas J and Elizabeth Chirico 1620 Terrace Blvd Hazleton, and Granddaughter of Jeanne Yamulla Chirico of Hazleton, has accepted a NCAA Division 1 offer to bowl with the Hampton University Pirates, Hampton, VA. When being recruited by many division 1 schools and receiving many offers Amy choice of Hampton was easy, Amy can fulfill her dream of Bowling NCAA Division 1 and Majoring in the 6yr Doctoral Pharmacy Program which she is accepted to at Hampton University.Hampton University participates in the MECA”Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, which might befrom top to bottom one of the elite Bowling Conferences in the Country

Coach Michael Williams Head Bowling for the Pirates of Hampton stated his reason for recruiting Amy was simple, he
Was impressed with everything that he observed in Amy, and it was the more intangible grasp of the sport and the small elements that really made it easy to say she would be great in Hampton’s reflex blue and white. Her obvious enthusiasm for this sport and her understanding of team and its requirements are what really floored me coach Williams stated, Amy has an understanding that far exceeds her age which would make her a joy to coach. Additionally, she has the established history of academic and athletic excellence necessary to succeed as a student-athlete.

Amy has been bowling at Stanton Lanes, Wilkes Barre for the past 3 years, and is coached by Gary Hockenreader, a local PBA member and a Certified bowling coach. Gary’s Coaching and his dedication to his students has made the transition of Jr. League bowling to Bowling Division 1 very smooth.

Amy is the Editor of the 2010 HAHA Year Book, the Editor of the Schools newspaper, Varsity Football mgr for 3 years, Varsity Softball Mgr for 2 years and a member of the Bowling team. Along with bowling Varsity for the HAHS Cougars Amy also bowls in the Pennsylvania Jr Bowling Tour where the participants can earn scholarship dollars for winning and placing in the top 5 in every tournament. Amy in her 2 year career of bowling with the PJBT’s Amy complied 2 1st place wins, 4 second’s, 6 thirds and a host of other top 5 finishes.

Amy also has qualified to bowl this year in Indianapolis in the Jr Gold Tournament. When you qualify to go for the Gold, the USBC has the tournament for you! It’s called the USBC Junior Gold Championships, an annual National Bowling Tournament for male and female youth athletes where you’ll bowl against the best youth bowlers in the United States for over $140,000 in scholarships and a chance to represent your country internationally as a member of Junior Team USA!If Amy bowled and won a qualifier tournament in November and will be participating in the nationwide Junior Gold tournament this summer (the 2010 event is in Indianapolis).

The participations will start by bowling a qualifying round of 18 games on challenging, but fair, lane conditions. After qualifying, bowlers making the cuts bowl a round of semi-finals, and then the top 16 boys and top 16 girls bowl round-robin match play finals on Friday, the last day of competition. You could be the 2010 Junior Gold Champion, and even get picked for Junior Team USA, the national youth team that represents the U.S. in international bowling competition.
